Interpersonal Competence for Vietnamese Youth

Năng lực giao tiếp cá nhân là một kỹ năng quan trọng đối với thanh niên Việt Nam muốn giao tiếp hiệu quả và tôn trọng với mọi người đến từ các nền văn hóa và nguồn gốc khác nhau. Năng lực giao tiếp liên quan đến khả năng hiểu bản thân và người khác, quản lý cảm xúc, giải quyết xung đột và hợp tác với người khác. Năng lực giao tiếp giữa các cá nhân có thể được nâng cao bằng cách học và thực hành các kỹ năng xã hội và cảm xúc, chẳng hạn như tự nhận thức, tự quản lý, nhận thức xã hội, kỹ năng quan hệ và ra quyết định có trách nhiệm. Những kỹ năng này phù hợp với khuôn khổ do Tổ chức Hợp tác Học tập Học thuật, Xã hội và Cảm xúc (CASEL) đề xuất. Bài viết này nhằm mục đích cung cấp cái nhìn tổng quan về lợi ích và thách thức trong việc phát triển năng lực giao tiếp bằng tiếng Anh cho thanh thiếu niên Việt Nam, cũng như một số gợi ý để giáo viên và người học bồi dưỡng kỹ năng này trong lớp học và hơn thế nữa.

Interpersonal competence is a crucial skill for Vietnamese youth who want to communicate effectively and respectfully with people from different cultures and backgrounds. Interpersonal competence involves the ability to understand oneself and others, to manage emotions, to resolve conflicts, and to cooperate with others. Interpersonal competence can be enhanced by learning and practicing social and emotional skills, such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. These skills are aligned with the framework proposed by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL). This paper aims to provide an overview of the benefits and challenges of developing interpersonal competence for Vietnamese youth in English, as well as some suggestions for teachers and learners to foster this skill in their classrooms and beyond.
