ベトナム料理&Cafe あおざい is a Vietnamese restaurant and cafe located in a quiet residential area of Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture. It is open only for lunch on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and offers authentic and homey Vietnamese dishes made by the owner, a Vietnamese woman who has been living in Japan for 28 years. The name of the restaurant, “あおざい”, is derived from “ao dai”, the traditional dress of Vietnam. The owner chose this name to express her love for both Japan and Vietnam. It is the only Vietnamese restaurant in Nikko City, where the World Heritage Site Nikko Toshogu Shrine is located.
The restaurant has a cozy and relaxing atmosphere, where you can enjoy the owner’s warm and handmade Vietnamese cuisine while feeling the nature of Nikko. The menu includes classic dishes such as “pho” (rice noodles) and “banh xeo” (Vietnamese-style pancake), as well as monthly specials that change every month. All lunch sets come with a simple Vietnamese-style dessert called “che”. You can also order other dishes such as “banh mi” (Vietnamese-style sandwich), a set of three kinds of Vietnamese spring rolls (fried, fresh and steamed), and authentic Vietnamese coffee. You can also make reservations for takeout.
The restaurant is located 5 minutes by car from Tsuchizawa IC on the Nikko-Utsunomiya Road, or 5 minutes by car from Shimotsuke-Osawa Station on the JR Nikko Line. Please come and visit us once. We look forward to seeing you.
